I started it very naive," says Anja (38). Together with her husband Frank (35) she moves to the countryside. They want to keep sheep, of course organic and found a cheese dairy. Full of verve, they launche the adventure. Three years later they set up a small dairy, but their dream of having a happy life in nature with their three children is still a constant challenge. The work is immense, time for family life is rare. The young couple is slowly losing strength and their love is put to the test.

"With the experience I have now, I wouldn't do it again," says Lukas (30). Already during his apprenticeship as organic farmer, he leases an old farm. He wants to do it with the organic livestock of cows and chickens. His wife Miriam (31) also wants daughter Helene to grow up in nature, but also wants to finish her studies. "That's very important to me. I do not want to be just the woman at his side."

Three years later, despite his hard work and many new ideas, Lukas still lacks sufficient customers. Miriam is pregnant with the second child, she interrupted her studies. The dream of living on the organic farm becomes a test of endurance. "I would like to spend more time with my family because otherwise I'll soon be without a wife and children."

Menschen hautnah accompanies the two families during the start-up phase of their small organic farms. And visits them again three years later: Are they holding on or is it the end of their dreams?
