Documentaries about people and their worlds

Start-Up Africa

In development

A documentary by Lukas Roegler

Developed as part of the Documentary Campus Masterschool 2016.

In coproduction with nindofilms.

From San Francisco to Berlin. From Shanghai to Sydney. The whole world is in the Start-Up fever. But nowhere do start-ups play a bigger role than in sub-saharan-Africa, where a new generation of african entrepreneurs is changing the continent.

From Lagos to Nairobi, from Kigali to Cape Tows - all over Africa young entrepreneurs dream of using their start-ups to achieve what 60 years of western development aid have never accomplished: the resurrection of a successful Africa, on par with the rest of the world.

The film shows a largely unknown, fascinating and rapidly changing Africa and invites to get a new look at a young, hopeful continent. A continent that is about to become one of the most important players for investment and innovation worldwide - and that is gradually developing a new, sustainable way of doing business, that could soon make Africa a role model and an opportunity for young Europeans.
