Jena-Paradies (In Entwicklung)

Jena-Paradies (Arbeitstitel) | TV-Dokumentarfilm, 90 Minuten | Im Auftrag des MDR, ein Film von Sabine Michel und Sonia Otto

Jena-Paradies is the story of Matthias Domaschk, who tragically died in the 1980s in the GDR because of his civil disobedience. A cold case of historical significance, it was decisive for the strengthening of the opposition forces that led to the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and is equally relevant to the major universal issues that concern us again today: What options does civil society have for protesting against the increasing destruction of the environment or inhumane dictatorships worldwide? JENA-PARADIES tells an emotional story of great historical significance and, at the same time, is highly topical in its portrayal of the power of civil resistance and the hope that we need today more than ever.

Jena-Paradies is based on Peter Wensierski's bestseller "Jena-Paradies – Die letzte Reise des Matthias Domaschk‘ (Jena Paradise – The Last Journey of Matthias Domaschk) and, based on numerous conversations with friends, family and companions of the deceased young man, as well as members of the opposing side, the Ministry for State Security, paints a complex, nuanced picture of two sides who, starting from completely different points of view, believed in very different 'paradises' and fought unconditionally for them.
